    Problem with Windows Explorer

I have a recurring problem with Windows Explorer. If I try to copy large files or execute large searches my version of Winows Explorer crashes (also a problem using Acronis 2009 to back up large files).

Everything else (not involving large fiile transfers) on the computer appears to work fine.

I recently completetly reloaded Windows Xp onto a new HD, the reason for the reload was that my system had got very sluggish and untidy and I wanted a clean reinstal to build a more organised system (which I have done).

One of the reasons that I reloaded Xp was because of this problem with Windows Explorer.

This problem means that I am restricted with back-ups etc, it also crashes when I try to use Acronis 2009 to back up my system onto an external Buffalo 1T HD.

    Windows XP build 2600 SP3
    4Mb memory
    Sata disc 1: 1TB
    Sata disc 2: 500MB
    DirectX 9.0
    AMD +4400
    IE 8.0.6001.18702
NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT -latest drivers installed

I would like to resolve this issue as it is preventing me from backing up my system properly.

Currently I have to back up individual files or smallish folders.

    Kind regards

    Martin

What file system? Note that FAT32 has a 4Gb file size limit.

Check out Copy large files using freeware TeraCopy (XP and Vista)

    Thanks for swift reply Digerati,

I am using NTFS throughout my system. It seems that if I copy between two internal SATA drives it works OK, but not if I use the SUB 2.0 connection to the external Buffalo 1T drive. I will experiment a it using Acronis on th einternal drives.

I always though Wnindows Explorer to be a benign piece of software so suprised it keeps crashing.

    Regards

    Maritn
