Question My C Drive does not exist

I am trying to install some GPS software off the disk supplied but it can not find my "C" drive.

I click on "start" and "explore" and I find

    MY COMPUTER
    3 1/2 Floppy (A
    The GPS CD in (D
    DVD-RW Drive (E
    BackUp Drive (f
    Main Drive (I

I have an external Hard drive F with 316GB free on 465 GB and
Main Drive I with 55GB Free on 149GB

Could it be my buddy who came over to 'help' somehow remaned my C to I drive?

Could I somehow rename it back to C drive?

If not is there someway to open the CD and install the program if I can't renane the drive.

Thanks for helping a new member.

I am glad I found you but if there is a solution could we do it K.I.S.S. method for me!

    Thanks!!

Right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management

Right click I: and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths...

Thanks. However now I get this message:

"Windows can not modify the drive letter of your system volumn or boot volumn"

I don't think that it will let you change the driver letter for it's location. Not only could you mess up windows but also your programs since your programs will no longer know where any configuration files are or whatever else they need. Windows won't know where your documents are either. This is not a good idea. Can you tell the software to install itself onto another drive? The drive letter shouldn't matter for installing a program but once it is installed then the drive letter matters. Does this make any sense?

    System Restore
    --------------------------------------------------
You might try a System Restore to a point prior to your problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Jephree how is the windows drove letter just renamed? It was probably set like that when it was installed.

I am not sure System Restore would be good since my buddy 'fixed' my PC and Drive Paths a few months ago. I would not want to loose photos, ZiPod stuff etc.

Any other options out there? Thanks.

Maybe talk to your buddy and find out exactly what he did.

I think he was a drive by buddy! 3,000 miles away and he doesn't recall

Does the software have to be installed on a c drive? Look to see during set up if you can specify another location. I can pretty much guarantee you that he didn't rename the windows partition since windows won't let you. The only way I know of that would have allowed him to change the driver letter would be during a windows reinstall. Did he do that for you? Changing the drive letter would break so much stuff that you would be having a lot more problems then not being able to install software. I recommend that you contact the company and find out what their advice is. Does any of this make sense?
