I got this instruction from Garmin but I still may not be getting the steps correctly:
You can try this. It uses a Windows command called Net Use. It allows you to map a virtual drive to a specific folder on a computer.
How to use it:
Create a new folder and give it a name. For example Monkeys
Get the name of your computer. Right click on My Computer/Computer, select Properties, select the Computer Name tab.
Open a command prompt by going to the Start menu, selecting Run then entering cmd. For Vista, just type cmd.
Type net use desired_drive_letter: \\computername\drive_the_folder_is_on$\folder_name
Example
net use C: \\OCC20148\C$\monkeys created a C drive on my computer using the Monkeys folder I created.
Run the Trip and waypoint manager disk again.
My silly questions include:
Where should I create the "Garmin" folder?
I have a computer name. something with numbers and codes so I tried to cut, copy and paste the name after the black box opened
I found my "Garmin" folder which has this address:
I:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Garmin
So, I go to CMD, the little black box opens and shows:
I\Documents and Setting\Administrator
So I tried this:
I\Documents and Settings \ Administrator \ C:\\My Computers name\ OCC20148\C$\Garmin
Then I hit the 'enter' key
Then I put in the Garmin CD and when I run it, I get the same problem.
SO, what step did I miss in this process.
If you can I need really K.S.S.S.++ instructions! Maybe screen shots? Thanks!!!

And Garmin is? Google shows GPS hardware? Is this what you are looking at?
Can you link to what you found?
Looks to me like they are simply setting up a new virtual drive. That would not change your drive letter unless I misunderstand what they are trying to do.
You never answered my question as to whether or not your program has to be installed on the C drive. With many programs you have a choice as to where you want to install it but the default is in c because thats usually where the windows partition is. During setup look for it to ask you where you want to install it to and change the location. Does this make sense? If you want you can do a screen shot of each box that you get during the install, post the shots, and we'll tell you what to change.
The alternative is to create a partition from leftover space on your drive and give it the c drive letter. Another alternative is to reinstall windows. Windows will not let you change the drive letter because it is in use and it won't know where it is at. Also your programs won't know where their configuration files are.You will basically break your system if you do that. I don't know about that virtual drive letter stuff.

I suggest then that you contact their technical support. They know the product better than we do. It doesn't make sense to me why it has to go onto c drive but the other options I mentioned still stand.
