    System Restore
    --------------------------------------------------
You might try a System Restore to a point prior to your problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

    Before.

Restore it to yesterday for example.

    Well that is not good.

First off right click My Computer then click Properties then System Restore

Turn it off then turn it back on. This will reset it for the future.

Next reboot to the Safe Mode option screen by tap tap tapping F8 between the BIOS or logo screens but before XP tries to start.

From the options choose: Last Known Good Configuration

Well reinstalling is always just a last option. There are also many ways to do it but we can try other things first.

Is this XP Home or XP Pro?
