    Re: Pc restarts after startup

No run it now. Run it on C: as well but do that last.

When run on C: you will be told the volume is in use. Do you want to run on reboot?

    Say yes "Y" and reboot.

Formatting does not "wipe" a drive or partition. It simply formats. The Boot Sector is never touched. In the rare occurrence of a boot sector virus a format will never touch it.

You need to use a tool such as Kill Disk.

Active@ Kill Disk Hard Drive Eraser. Low Level Format.

And is it possible to only wipe c: drive. I mean i got very imp data on d: & e: drive. So, if i wipe of c: drive then will the data on d: & e: drive remain safe & usable.

I do not think Kill Disk will run on partitions alone. But I can test boot mine if you want to try it.

The best would be to back up D & E and wipe the drive.

If that is not feasible there are more delicate options using GParted which is still more powerful then formatting from a windows disk.

    GParted

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway if you use GParted: Save this download:

    SourceForge.net: GParted: Downloading ...

This is an ISO file. You will need an ISO burning program to burn it. It cannot be burnt as data as it is an image.

If you use Nero there is an option called "Create Disk Image".

If you do not have Nero you can use this free program:

    ISO Recorder v 2

This will add the burning option to your right click options or shell.

With Nero just point it to the downloaded ISO. With the other recorder just right click the ISO and choose Burn Disk Image.

A new blank CD is required.

After the burn this CD will be a boot disk and will boot GParted.

Verify that your CD drive is set to boot prior to the hard drive and boot the CD.

There are some basic tutorials on the functions and use of GParted here:

Yeah. check disk is on. Its taking long time for step 4. And would like to share. Today eve I was planning to take back up of all my drives & then delete all the partitions & recreate & then install windows. But couldnt do that bec the prob is i got 160 GB HDD which is nearly full. Specially d: & e: drives which are 75 GB & 50 GB. So, to take backup i need another HDD which m tryin to arrange from some friend. In the mean while a got a HDD from friend which is 40 GB. Taking backup is not possible in that but i thought just to xperiment what i will do is i will disconnect my old hdd & connect this hdd & will install windows on it & istall all the drivers & use it for couple of days. What do u suggest.

Check disk runs fast thru 1,2,3, <<< 4 & 5 take some time.

After check disk I would try the drivers on your User account. If the problem persists your idea of a new drive sounds good.

You can still use your current drive as a slave and access D & E.
