Should have plenty of RAM, but getting Low Disk Space warning....

    Hello,

I recently received a "low disk space" warning. I completely cleaned up my computer and only left the necessities, however, the amount of hard drive space available did not change even though I cleaned all large and unnecessary files off.

What is the hard drive size, and how much of a free space left?
RAM has nothing to do with disk space.

Hard drive size is 51.0 GB

    Free space is 5.73 GB

Well, you need to free some HD space. Windows needs at least 15% of a free space to operate correctly. That would be, 7.6GB in your case, but obviously, you don't want to stay just on the edge, so you want to have around 10GB free.

Well thank you for that tip, but that's exactly my problem. How do I free up that space? I will reiterate my initial post, "I completely cleaned up my computer and only left the necessities, however, the amount of hard drive space available did not change even though I cleaned all large and unnecessary files off."

I posted my hijack this log so that someone can possibly see what's causing all my free space to disappear and help me fin my free space. Can you help me find my free space?

Do you have any backup programs?

    Are you running system restore?

    Norton Ghost?

    etc.

Any backup software is going to hang on to this data.

Windows files take less, than 5GB, so it means, the rest (46GB, or so) is taken by your data files, and programs you installed.

    To clean the garbage...
Download, and install CCleaner: CCleaner - Builds. Get "Slim" version.
Read CCleaner instruction here: CCleaner Manual, and run CCleaner.

Move some of your data files (music, movies, pictures, etc.) somewhere else.

Go to Add\Remove, and uninstall programs, you don't use.

    ....or, buy bigger hard drive.

Also restart your computer if you have not.

If the warning persists what is the verbatim error?

Thanks to friendly advice, you can also gain some space by reducing space taken by System Restore.

Right click on My Computer, click on Properties, and then click on the System Restore tab.

Click on your C: drive in the available drives list, and click on Settings...

Move the slider to the left, so it's set roughly half-way at 6%. That would give you an extra 3 GB free.

I followed your instructions, and the slider was already at 5%. The only drive I have is the c: drive.

    Anything else I can do?
