after reinstalling windows xp, screen has vertical/horizontal stripes and shuts off

    Hey there,

i had posted a few days ago in the hijack section regarding a problem I was having. not being able to solve it there, i chose to reinstall windows xp. everything went well, i then updated all the drivers for my inspiron 9400 from the dell website. unfortunatly i didnt exactly know which was needed so i just downloaded all that were marked recommended or urgent and ran them following the order that was recommended.

everything was fine last night, computer was faster than it had ever been, i was able to upgrade all the drivers and restart the comp mutliple times without issues. this morning when i turned it back on there were multiple vertical lines on the screen. then when windows loads i get the blue screen stating there is an error 0x00000050 (0xf3ae64c4, 0x00000000, 0x8052b8f3, 0x00000000)
i cant log into normal mode so im using another computer to type here. i went through the safe mode but did not see any issues on my device manager

thanks for the extremely quick response.
looking at the articles, the only thing that i can relate with is the installation of the drivers. besides all the drivers i put in, all i have downloaded is the service pack 3, the bios 9 upgrade driver, and norton 2009.
is there a way for me to understand which driver is the issue?

    Did you review this:

The computer may automatically restart, or you may receive a "serious error" message or a Stop error message in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, or in Windows 2000

I do note your earlier infection so I would check your Event Viewer in Safe Mode for the 1003 error.

Or report any errors in the Viewer.

Safe Mode with Networking should get you online and then you can load debugging tools as seen here:

    BSOD

Read the post HERE for a few diagnostic ideas and post back any relevant data.

Wow that is a crazy screen.

    Anyway:

Possible Resolutions to STOP 0x0A, 0x01E, and 0x50 Errors

These errors may be caused by one or more of the following: Hardware failure (memory, processor, or motherboard).

Anti-virus software that is running on your computer.

    Drivers installed by third-party software.

Try for starters going to start > Run... > msconfig > Startup

Click the box: Disable all. Do all the Okays and applies etc. then try to let it reboot into normal windows.

You will be told you are in Diagnostic mode etc. and just tell it to go away and not tell you that again.

Let us know how it goes. I am off for a couple hours but shall return.

Try restarting to the Safe Mode option screen.

    Try:

    Last known good configuration

If that fails try Safe Mode but then choose System Restore and go back before you installed any drivers or Norton.

(now I'm really leaving for an hour Will return.)
