I have tried it again with Skype and Windows Live Messenger with the same result. A blurred multicoloured image which I am unable to focus or reset with the Tools, video settings on both programmes. It is a usb 'plug and play' device 'Made in China' with no installation cd. The camera (10 Mp) was bought by my Oz cousin, as he uses the same model, and posted to me 'free gratis'. Is it possible that I need to download some new software to overcome the problem?.
The Specifications and Features, listed on the carton are as displayed below: -

    Definition: 100k/300k/350k/400k/450k pixels (640 x 480) 300k pixels
CMOS chip Type: Colour CMOS image sensor 350k pixels
    Hi resolving power 640 x 480.
Video Format: 24 bit RGB 400k pixels
    Interface: USB
    Frame rate: 320 x 240 up to 30 frames/sec (CIF) 450k pixels
    640 X 480 up to 15 frame/sec(VGA)
    Sensor size: 4.86x3.64mm2 480k pixels

I was undecided whether I should submit this in another forum or will it be ok as a continuation of the original problem?

    This is fine.

What is the exact make and model of the cam?

The Chinese are renowned for their ability to copy almost any product and the model and manufacturer are quite vague. The only details on the package are DIGITAL PRODUCT - PC CAMERA Made in China with the Windows logo with Windows 9x/2000/XP/Vista. The camera is marked with a logo similar to the Nike logo, black sphere with a white 'tick' or exaggerated capital 'V'. To the right of the logo appears to be a model number N19010 Made in China. I should have explained earlier that when I have attempted a video conversation with my Oz cousin I have received 4 distorted images which made me suspect that his image transmission was corrupt, or the image was being corrupted with my own pc software?

Just to verify: did this cam work previously on this computer?

    No.

I previously had a Microsoft LifeCam - X100 which worked on WindowsLiveMessenger but gave similar problems to the current webcam on Skype. i.e. multi image, unable to focus or resolve via camera settings. This was a known problem to the Skype support. It would be interesting to know if anyone reading this topic succesfully used the Microsoft LifeCam- X100 on the Skype system.

Have/can you tried the web cam on another computer? Preferably one with XP on it. When you use the camera what picture does the other person(s) see of you? What about when connected to another computer?

Camera was tried on another computer running XP. No image, unable to control focus or setup.

Long "video"/audio session just completed with Oz cousin. He received a blurred screen of psychidellic colours but detected movement by me. He was able to see a screen full of data of my transmission. (I copied his audio transmission of the data but it is too long to include here) My own video screen was equally divided longtitudanly showing 4 greyscale images of him.
