Computer Keeps freezing randomly
Hi,
I recently moved and added a linksys wireless adapter to my computer and ever since then my computer has been freezing randomly. It used to freeze only when i was running Azureus but after uninstalling Azureus it keeps freezing just not as frequently. I am not sure if it is software or a hardware problem.
I appreciate any help available.

Event Viewer
--------------------------------------------------
Check your Event Viewer via Administrative Tools.
Open the System as well as Application tabs and look for red X errors that coincide with your problem. Details here:
How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
Basic information on Event Viewer errors can be found here: EventID.Net

i checked that out and it seems the only thing that could be causing the freezing would be the error on the Service control manager

What is the Event ID #?
When it freezes do you have to power off the computer?
Did you notice if it was dirty inside? Did you check that the fans were working OK?
Have you run a Virus scan?

Also:
Have you tried it both wired & wireless just to see if there is a difference?
Also monitor your Task Manager > Processes and see if any process is spiking the CPU when a freeze occurs.

So I did everything I could think of and what you mentioned; the only thing that worked is when I connected my computer directly through a ethernet cable. Using azureues and everything never once caused it to freeze. So I am pretty sure it is the wireless adapter.
Any idea why the adapter and/or the adapter software would be causing my computer to freeze? I really would like to solve the problem due to the fact that My desktop is generally too far from my modem to have it hard wired. I guess if all else fails i have no choice, but if there is an option I would love a solution.
Thanks again for the help and any further help you provide.

What is the exact model of Linksys wireless adapter?
Have you loaded the latest firmware and drivers from Linksys?

Is it internal or external? Have you tried disabling the Linksys connection software and using XP's connection wizard? I recently purchased an external Linksys adapter however I did not like the connection wizard for Linksys. It's so confusing that I couldn't even figure out how to use it. What have you tried to do? Have you noticed if anything in particular is causing your computer to freeze. Try doing less stuff online at a time. Do you have any other computers connecting to your router wirelessly?

Try disable all startup options and reboot PC to see if any app cause the system freeze.
From the Start - Run , type "msconfig" hit enter, from the pop up menu, click on "startup" , select "disable all" and OK, reboot PC to take effect.
If this helps your problem, go back to the same statup menu, select the option one by one and reboot everytime until you got the same problem again.
So just not to select the option that cause the freeze then.
Besides the software issue, you may need to check the system temperature including the VGA card.
Hope this helps!
