External Sound card problem!
Just re-installed windows xp pro after my main drive crashed. Only problem left is I cannot get any sound from desk top speakers (2.1). After loading set up disk the following error appears.
---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster USB Audio on your system.
Please ensure that your Sound Blaster hardware is properly installed before running this Setup program.
Setup will now exit.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Can anyone help to restore my sound please?

Can you verify that the USB ports are working?
Do you get any indication of new hardware when you plug in the USB?
Check your Device Manager for any yellow ! or ? unknown devices.

Cheers for the reply Jeffrey, I think I might have found what the problem is being caused by, but have no idea how to sort it out.
After the fresh install I ran a driver scanner to look for any that needed up dating. the following drivers were loaded; usb_vid_0451_pid_32002_6_1.zip - ZIP archive, unpacked size 2,162,186 bytes , media_pgusbmm3adapter2_6_1.zip - ZIP archive, unpacked size 2,162,186 bytes , pci_ven_10de_dev_03ef67_8_0.zip - ZIP archive, unpacked size 71,068,063 bytes ,nVIDIA pci_ven_10de_dev_03eb4_6_9 . So when I plug in external sound card device i get found device pop up and let it look for the missing drivers. It keeps loading a driver from the following folder D:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\********\APPLICATION DATA\UNIBLUE\DRIVERSCANNER\DOWNLOAD\MEDIA_PGUSBMM3 ADAPTER2_6_1\USB_ASIO, it is not loading from installation disk.
Universal Serial Bus controller’s midi device has yellow mark on it that’s the only one. Hope some of this is helpful to you.

Have you installed at least SP2?
Universal Serial Bus controller’s midi device
Is that listed under: Universal Serial Bus controllers
-
yes SP2 installed, yes it is listed under USB controllers
-
That midi device might simply be the audio signal for Windows sounds.
Do you get any windows sounds?
Just to clarify: You have the installation disk for these speakers but it does not work?
Does it have a setup program?

Please try and get that dump log as seen in this post:

Read the post HERE for a few diagnostic ideas and post back any relevant data.

Really sorry about this jephree but my knowledge of the workings of a pc is fair, but not great, some say that learning is half the fun RIGHT?
When i run debugwiz it is saying that when the dos window closes, your dump output has been saved to
c:\debuglog.txt
The problem is that my main operating drive is ‘D’, is there a way of getting Debugging Tools from Microsoft to load on to this drive and debugwiz also?
-
You are running two OS? If so it is D: that crashed but C: is OK?
If so go look at C: and see if the log was saved there.
If not I will see if it can be changed but I'll have to run some tests.
You can also verify that it was not saved to D: despite the note.
