It was my cousin's laptop and I thought he had set it up already he said he got it working but I'm not sure how it was working but it turns out I had to redo the network settings by manually hooking up the router to the modem via cable and setting it all up again and enabling mac address clone.

    Took what home? Everything? Modem/Router/xbox/Laptop?

Do you have the same ISP.

Basically the hardware needs to be setup where you are going to use it.

Your laptop should be able to use any wireless network. But you can't just move about modems and routers if that is what happened.
