Unhappy all downloaded files are corrupted

I run Windows XP Home Edition. I have been using AVG free edition for security for the past 1 1/2 years with no problems. I uninstalled AVG and downloaded a new copy. At the end of the download, which was endless because I, unfortunately, have to use a dial-up connection, there was an error message that said the file was corrupted and I should download a new copy.

I did so, from a different download site, with the same end result. I then tried Avira antivir twice and got the exact same error message. So now I know this is a problem with my computer. I just do not know what to do about it! Also I tried System Restore and that did not work either. Can anyone tell me what to do about all of this? All help will be most appreciated. Thank you.

I'd suggest installing CCleaner and run the registry cleaner:

    CCleaner - Home

Jephree: Do you think I should try a download? If so, which....AVG or Avira? Thanks.

I prefer AVG. And yes try it out. If you get an error please post the exact error message.

I've been trying to download from AVG directly. Today I tried again and it only downloaded less than half of the program. I am going to try to download from your site in a little while and will keep you posted!
