BCCode Error, automatic restarts
Hi:
I am using XP on an eMachine. Recently, it has started crashing and automatically restarting with a BCCode error. A few points of interest. 1) It seems to happen only (or at least mostly) when I'm looking at something on YouTube, or have, say, NPR radio open in a player. 2) It doesn't seem to happen in Firefix, only IE. 3) It happened right after I took Spyware Doctor back one upgrade (at their suggestion, because my computer had slowed to a crawl) though they this is not a problem associated with that software.
Thanks for reading.

What is the exact code error?
Also see the following:

BCCode: 1000008e BCP1: C0000005 BCP2: 805B57EC BCP3: B069B5DS BCP4: 00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP: 2_0 Product: 768_1
I turned off the auto-restart, and got the message below when it crashed:
C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc1f3.dir00\Mini 12408-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc1f3.dir00\sysd ata.xml
Thanks very much for taking a look. This is killing me.

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn’t catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).
0x1000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M
Essentially the same error as 0x8E above.
Troubleshooting Windows STOP Messages
The "Dump" logs were created to send to Microsoft.
In order for you or I to open these logs you need to follow the instructions in that previous post:
BSOD

Read the post HERE for a few diagnostic ideas and post back any relevant data.
You need to install the debugging tools in order to open:
C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc1f3.dir00\Mini 12408-01.dmp
This log should contain the faulty device or driver involved.

I can't open the dmp. I have Debugwiz open, and pasted in the location of that file, but it will not generate a report (doesn't go to DOS mode -- should it?), and only the top "Browse" button is highlit.
-
Did you download the Debugging tools from Microsoft?
-
Yes, I downloaded it. Or at any rate, I downloaded:
Download the Debugging Tools for Windows
Current Release version 6.11.1.402 - February 6, 2009
Install 32-bit version 6.11.1.402 [16.9 MB]

Did you run a Search for .dmp
You might have other dumps and or the location might be different.
Also assuming you can recreate this error change your settings here:
right click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery > Settings
Change Small memory dump to Complete memory dump and check Overwrite
You will get a popup about page file that you just say Yes to.
Then try to recreate your issue and a new dump should form.
This will be at:
%SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP

I did run a search, found 28 or so. Most of them were in C\WINDOWS\Minidump. But using one of the files in that folder, pasting it in or using "Browse", then hitting the log button didn't seem to do anything.

OK. I'll have to retest the Wiz. I've not used it in a while.
In the meantime the 08E followed by the C05 is generally graphics.
Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card?
