Unhappy freezing issue with certain folders

hi again. so i got a new computer a few months ago and all is well except recently when i go to my computer > C > documents and settings > Administrator > my documents....until here all is well but then i can't open my pictures or my downloads or my music. well actually they will open when given a great deal of time but i am unable to select anything in the windows or even close the windows. the only way to close them is to go thru task manager and "end task" which actually still creates an error pop-up stating that the program "my downloads (or whatever) is not responding...blah blah. any help witht his would be great and thankyou in advance for taking the time.

If this is a noticeable "New" problem try System Restore first.

If that doesn't help check out your Event Viewer for particular errors.

    System Restore
    --------------------------------------------------
You might try a System Restore to a point prior to your problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

    ----------------------------------

    Event Viewer
    --------------------------------------------------
Check your Event Viewer via Administrative Tools.

Open the System as well as Application tabs and look for red X errors that coincide with your problem. Details here:

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Basic information on Event Viewer errors can be found here: EventID.Net
