    Unhappy XP Police Antivirus

I keep getting a pop up, and a shield notice on my windows toolbar, telling me I have a trojan or malicious spyware. I am advised to register with the XP Police Antivirus site. Is this a legitimate site or another one of those scams to get you to buy some more useless software? Can anyone advise me about either getting rid of the constant messages or actually using the suggested site please???

NO. Never use a stie like that. You've got a Malware infection. That is the infection itself.

Run Spybot as explained in the link below then follow the rest of these instructions:

    HijackThis
    --------------------------------------------------
Please read THIS and after completing the steps outlined post a HijackThis log over in that section along with a brief description of your problem.

Do not post HijackThis logs in this section please.

Thank you jephree . I ran Spybot and it seems to have got rid of the XP Police Antivirus messages. Thats the problem with being a novice! Everything seems a problem. I dont really understand what you mean by a Hijackthis log, there didnt seem to be log available after I cleared everything from Spybot. Do I have to have a different software to post this log etc?? Ive read the thread about it, but as a silver surfer I have very limited knowledge of computers. Thanks again for your valuable assistance. Stron

You need to download the small application HijackThis which is linked below. Any text you see underlined is a link when you click on it.

Post the results in the section listed at the bottom of the quote. Not here please. Those guys will be able to tell you if the infection has been totally removed.

Download the new version of hijackthis here: Install Hijackthis to the correct folder: C:\Program Files\HijackThis

    HIJACKTHIS

Click scan and save a log file and notepad will open up with HJT inside.

    Copy/Paste into your reply.

Also to help speed things up for you and the Moderator working on your computer please follow the instructions below:

    Open Hijackthis.

Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.

Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.

    Click the "Save list" Button.

Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

When you post your hijackthis log for the first time, please tell us what is going on. Popups, slow computer, warnings from your anti-malware programs, being re-directed to web pages you don't want to go to, etc. etc.

Also, each time you post as we are attempting to "FIX" your computer, please tell us how things are now(What progress is being made). This keeps us from having to ask each time.

Please do not post your hijackthis logs any other place on this forum, they belong in the Hijackthis forum:
