    IE crashing

I am using Win XP, Dell laptop Inspiron 6000. For a longtime I'd been using as my homepage: NetDania - ChartStation - Application - Live forex charts, real-time forex charts, live currency charts . But now when I open it, my IE browser shutdowns immediately w/o any notice. It re-opens fine providing I don't use netdania - EVEN THEIR HOME PAGE. I realize it's got a java setup, but other java sites work just fine.

    Whazzup with this?

    Yhanks,

    Bill

    1. Go to "Start" -> "Run" -> and register the following dll's by using regsvr32 command:

    regsvr32 scrrun.dll‏

    regsvr32 msxml.dll‏

    regsvr32 mshtml.dll‏

    regsvr32 shdocvw.dll‏

    regsvr32 browseui.dll

    regsvr32 msjava.dll‏

    regsvr32 urlmon.dll‏

    regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

Note: Please try first to register the urlmon.dll and actxprxy.dll and restart Internet Explorer.

    2. Restart the Internet Explorer.

That is very strange. One would think you'd have a lot more problems if you were missing those .dlls

Make sure you have Update 6_11 of Java: Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)

Java SE Downloads - Sun Developer Network (SDN)

    Also is this IE 7?

Also if a new problem you could try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem.

Another possibly useful command would be Run... cmd

    Then:

    IPCONFIG/FLUSHDNS

    Followed by:

    IPCONFIG/REGISTERDNS

    using IE ver 6 sp3

    Java downloads for Windows failed.

    Ran both Ipconfig CMDs.

sfc /sparrow tells me to insert XP Professional disk.

Also, this link gives us some insight which may be helpful?:

Internet Explorer is corrupted… how do I fix it?

SFC /scannow requires the OS CD to replace corrupted files.

Still hard to believe that homepage is your only issue here.

I would suggest installing IE 7:

No problem. With all due respect IE 7 should be the version run at this time.

IE 8 will soon be. One should run the most recent version of software available.

This is also true with Java and has a lot to do with both security and performance.

Unfortunately the only way to "repair" IE 6 is to reinstall XP with the outside chance of a few ideas here:

Dell either supplied you with a CD or else they have recovery options on your hard drive most likely via Ghost.

    Drivers & Downloads

Dell Technical Support Home Page / Dell Troubleshooting Search

How To Restore or Reinstall Microsoft® Windows® on a Dell™ Computer

    Dell - Support

You can also order your disks:
