    Re: IE crashing

Ok; give me some time to research. I assume that 1000/1001/1002 are all "Application Hangs" as "Source".

What was/is the "Source" of 1517?

yes, red events were Application, but the yellow was "userenv" and SYSTEM under User heading.

It may not apply or even matter, but under the System Event Viewer tree there is a Red Error#4321 with a Source of NetBT

Here is a page on userenv 1517:

You experience log off problems on a Windows XP-based, Windows Server 2003-based, Windows 2000-based, or Windows NT 4.0-based computer

If you have no problem starting or turning off your computer I would leave this for now.

I will get back to you ASAP on the Application Hangs.

    Please download this program:

    FileMon for Windows

Your errors past and present tend to suggest that you have some other software installed that is conflicting with IE by renaming .DLLs such as URLMON

I am loading the same program above as I have not used it before.

I don't know yet how self explanatory it will be but if you have questions with it please ask or else after I try it myself I will post some more info.

As it runs in real time it is registering everything your computer is doing.

Most importantly it is showing which program is doing what.

What would be informative for us if you turn off all programs except IE then try and force a crash.

Do you remember what you were doing in the past when IE crashed or hung?

If you get a crash say at 10:05PM you can look at the File Monitor and see what happened at 10:05PM.

The assumption here is that some program outside of IE is trying to use IE .DLL's.

If X program is running an urlmon.dll and it collides with IE which should be the only urlmon.dll it would hang or crash IE. This tool might show us what other program was involved here.

IE7 has failed on only 3-4 occasions since installing and those shutdowns were all caused when I opened my home page which was not always at startup - such as clicking thru on an OE msg link for another site.

As I expressed earlier I think it's java, but I have uninstalled/re-installed that. Home page:
NetDania - ChartStation - Application - Live forex charts, real-time forex charts, live currency charts

There was a Java update released recently:

    java.com: Java + You

    Version 6_12

Another general instance of errors 1001/1002 is a corrupted user account and or possible toolbar corruption.

Are you using third party toolbars?

All this being said I think we have narrowed it down to a urlmon issue.

urlmon.dll is a module that contains functions used by Microsoft OLE (Object Linking and Embedding).
