    XP 64 or Vista 64?

I am a gamer inwhich I currently using XP 32bbit with dual boot Vista Business 32bit. I have EVGA 780SLI MB and want to bring it to its full buy using 4GB of memory. I running 8800 GTS Video card as well.

Do I use XP or Vista 64bit? I go and upgrade to a MB that uses DDR3 when I have to run 64 or stay with 32?

    What do you Think Jephree?

I run XP 64 and would not use it again unless I ran a server.

I have no experience with Vista 64.

Not many games even use 64 bit architecture and I don't think it adds much if anything on the ones that do.

You can still run 4GB RAM on a 32 bit system although all of it might not be utilized.

That being said I am testing Windows 7 32 bit which does indeed read all 4 GB of my RAM.

Windows 7 will probably come out by the end of the year and I would wait for that.

You can download the Beta now if you want to test it.

I wonder myself about the 64 bit vs 32 bit if there is really a big difference between them both. I think I will wait it out for the new OS. How do you like the beta Window's 7? Is it for gaming?

XP 64 aka Server 2003 was specifically designed for servers. Running it as a PC platform it tends to be rather slow and awkward. Most programs get put into the 32 bit (x86) program files anyway.

As I said I don't know about Vista but it was not designed as a server platform.

There is a Windows 7 thread here:

Windows 7 will also offer both 32 and 64 bit versions.

For gaming the biggest leap is in DirectX. Windows 7 goes to DirectX 11.

Most cards today are DirectX 10 so the hardware may have to catch up here.

The difference between DirectX 9 (XP) and X 10 (Vista) is very noticeable so one can imagine the next level.

I have tested Crysis and Bioshock on Windows 7 and both run and look great!

Like I said, I am running 8800 GTS (one card) with 780SLI board "EVGA" and in XP I get 250+ FPS and in Vista I get 91 FPS tops. Both OS are 32 bit.

Do you have XP drivers on the XP and Vista drivers on the Vista?

Or are you just using one driver for both?
