Internet Explorer freezes or just DISAPPEARS !!

    Hello,
I'm having issues with internet explorer.
Sometimes it slows my PC right down - when I call up task manager its processing at 100% and its explorer taking all the resources !!
The only way to exit it is from task manager which comes up not responding then after a few seconds it closes IE.
One other times IE just closes totally on its own - no high CPU usage it just closes all the tabs I have open and disappears !!!!!

Thanks in advance for any help !!
    Gaz

Is IE the only app slowing the machine down?

Have you loaded any new software which automatically updates?

Or, it's possible you may have picked up some undesirable elements while on-line.

Try the measures outlined here; http://www.d-a-l.com/help/spyware-ad...eeding-up.html If this doesn't help, or (other) issues remain which cannot be resolved through these measures,,,,,,

I recommend you post a HijackThis log for review by our security experts. Follow the instructions here-> HiJackThis prerequisites. There are important measures outlined here which affect and "optimize" the outcome of your HJT log.

Then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs Forum. (Not in this section please).

Yes its only IE thats slowing my PC down.
I've tried running Spybot as suggested but I keep getting this error dialog box

    Windows - No Disk

    Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c

I remember having a similar message to this when once my external harddrive allocated itself to a different drive location and when trying to run an AVI conversion app it was trying to access the old location.
Is Spybot trying to access a drive address which no longer has a drive ?
I have to keep clicking cancel a few times then it will run for a while then come back with the same dialog.
It would take me hours to sit and click cancel for the entire scan !!

    Suggestion #1
Open a Command Prompt window. Type in chkdsk c: /r at the command prompt. (If c: is your windows drive. If not, adjust accordingly.) It will inform you that it must be run at the next boot. (Comply, shut down Windows and reboot.)

    Suggestion #2
Run a file check on the O/S.

If you have an XP CD:
    Click START, RUN, type in:

    sfc /purgecache

(This ensures that system files are copied from your Windows installation media, and files which may be infected with malware, or are corrupted, are not copied from your drive. Some of the files which are restored/replaced may need MS Updates applied. If sfc replaces any such files, you will have to reinstall updates for those files. (If you have Automatic Updates active, this will happen automatically.))

    Then type in:

    sfc /scannow

    Have your XP CD handy.

If you don't have an XP CD:
    Click START, RUN, type in:

    sfc /scannow

    Suggestion #3
    Attempt a repair of IE.
