i have no sound any ideas why?
ok i have had my computer for a while and it was working just fine
but someone made a password on my computer and i didnt kno what it was
so this guy got around that for me but now i have no sound i have a windows xp home edition and when i got on windows media player it says
(Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.)
ive already went to the aidio options in the control pannel and i dont know what else to do help ?

You need to install the software for your sound card. Try this..
Right click on "My Computer", select "Proporties", click the "Hardware" tab, Click "Device Manager".
This will list all the hardware detected by windows. You should see one with a yellow exclamation which would be your sound card.
Right click that device and select "Update Driver". Follow the on screen instructions. This might not be able to find any. If not, do a google search or go to the manufacturers website to get the drivers.
If you don't see anything in device manager, it could be that it has been disabled in your BIOS settings (assuming the sound card is buil into your motherboard). To enable it, try this..
Restart the PC, as soon as it starts booting, keep tapping the "Del" key to enter setup. On some computers it is "F2" or another key, just look for a message when it 1st begins to load saying something like "Press Del to enter setup".
When you are in setup, look for an option like "intergrated perhipials" here you can control if things like your built in soundcard is enabled or not.
Good luck

Welcome to D-A-L.
Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under MOTHERBOARD.
Post what is listed for your Motherboard (make/model) and the Motherboard Chipset description.
Then look under Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.
