Super Slow LAN only one PC

    Hi,

I have a strange networking problem on a PC. The PC has a shortcut to an exe file on a networked PC which is used to run a little custom program. It used to run fine, but now it takes about 5 mins to load and explorer become unresponsive during that time.

It works fine from another machine (also having a shortcut to that file on a remote machine)

I've tried browsing the netwrok manually, same problem. I notice that when i get to the programs directory, The exe file as no associated icon untill a few mins has past. If I try anything such as a right click on the files, the same delay problem occurs.

I've ran the network wizard, removed network drivers, then reinstalled them, etc. still nothing. It works fine from another pc on the network, so the problem is definatley local to this machine.

Have got up to date antivir and malwarbytes. Have ran full scans of each. All fine

    I'm stumped! Any suggestions?

(not sure if it related, but... The Icons in quicklaunch change to random ones on startup allthough the shortcuts themselves work ok. Deleted shellicon cache file and tried otther suggestions found on google. Still the problem persists)

    Rich,

You can check all physical cable for any broken wire.

Try use system restore to see if your PC can simply fix the network problem after roll back to the date the slow network happened.

Otherwise, uninstall and reinstall the network service and protocol may help.
Check if your PC got the same network configuration as the others.

LAN driver may need to resintall.
Also try set the Lan connection speed to slower speed, eg. set 100mb to 10mb full duplex in the LAN card properties "flow control" option may help.

    Hope this helps!

Tried New Cable, new Network card, remove then reinstall drivers, ran configuration wizard in several different ways. System restore no good either.

Using a program called Regmon, I was able to see that when I try right clicking on the shortcut to a networked file (which causes explorer to freeze for about 30 secs) several registry items are marked "NOT FOUND" indicating that possibly some registry values are missing.

Possible they have been deleted by a registry "repair tool". There does not seem to be a backup of these files.

Will I have to do a windows repair install?

    Reinstalled windows still same problem!
Tried creating a new user account, still same problem in that account too.

When booting to a seperate windows installation on the same PC, everything wroks fine, so it is obviously not a hardware issue.

I posted my hijackthis log but I don't see much there.

    Please anyone any ideas?
