    SP2 upgrade error

I am trying to upgrade to service pack 2 via Windows Update. I get an error when the computer is trying to install the file icwhelp.dll. Nothing I have tried has helped. I cannot bypass the file and continue the installation.

Once Windows aborts the installation and tries to return to the previous state it will not reboot.

I deleted the original download from Microsoft and let Windows Update download a new version.

I turned off all antivirus software.

It does not make a difference if I am online or not while I am trying to install the upgrade.

The only software that is running (as far as I know) while I try to install is Norton GoBack. That has saved me by allowing to restore to before the upgrade attempt.

This is an OEM version of XP and I have the original cd if that helps.

    Hope you can help

That's a basic Internet Connection Wizard Help file.

Is SP3 available in Windows Update? If so I'd try that.

You can also get it here:

Service Pack 3 Resources for IT Professionals

    SP3 contains and continues SP2.

Windows Update does not offer SP3 as a choice to install and will not let me install SP3. The only choice I get is SP2.

The web address you directed me to in the above post wants a $349.00 signup fee before I can download anything.

    Any other ideas?

There are many links on that Microsoft site. Sorry should have been more specific:
