ok... i have a dell computer i think its a Gx270 and when i try and turn it on, the power light is a solid amber color.

What can i do to fix the problem and get it to a solid green light?

The first thing to check is your power to the wall outlet where your machine is plugged in.

If that's fine, check your power cord from the wall outlet to the machine.

If that's fine, (and this is a desktop machine), check your power cables from the internal power supply to the motherboard.

If that's fine, obtain a decent power supply tester from a computer store to check your machines power supply. (Don't buy the cheapest, expect probably $25.00 to $35.00 US. Some just give you coloured LEDS to indicate GOOD/BAD. Get one with +/- voltage variants.)
