Just turned on my laptop and it has stuck on the loading windows xp screen, the blue loading bar just keeps on running. can't do anything, nothing I press makes any difference.

Try booting into Safe Mode and choosing Last Known Good Configuration.
(Hit F8 just after the machines POST (Power On Self Test).
