I don't really know what you mean by cleaning software..

I use AVG as antivirus.

I run superantispyware.

Plus adaware .

For cleaning out unwanted bits of files leftovr or remnants of erased programsetc., I use CCleaner

Allthe above are free, and keep the computer clean.

Also use a good firewall, as windows XP only works in one direction.

Yeah, we need to know that to answer best. Do you mean malware cleaning, or cleaning of temp files and other unnecessary clutter on your drives? In either case they are in that sticky - under major rewrite by the way, with the main focus on malware prevention and not removal, which is best left to those qualified, and their specialized tools.
