Hi niiccckkkk123 and welcome.
A little hard to help when we know nothing of your system - laptop or PC? Did it ever work? When?
Have you scanned for malware?
Have you tried your speakers (assuming they are external) on another computer? Most computer speakers are self powered, they need to be plugged into a power source and turned on - so you need to make sure the speakers work before assuming it is a computer problem.
You can try another set of speakers on your system too.
-
Thanks for the welcome!!
The short story is - I had a Vaio, my father took it to our local PC shop, the motherboard was currupt, they sorted my father out with a second hand PC for cheap with around the same power and memory as my Vaio, I've had the PC for around a month now.
When i got the PC the sound did work but only on Windows Media Player thats it! I've fiddled round researching and scratching my head but cannot figure it out.
I've tried two different types of speakers, which both are plugged into the mains. They both have the same outcome - max volume, tiny little sound (when ear is right next to the speaker!).
Sorry i don't know what malware is?
I don't know if its the hardware or audio software or settings?
Don't have a clue how to test all these possibillities?!
Any furthur help will be much apprecated!
Nick.

Malware is the catchall term for malicious software that includes viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, etc.
In Control Panel, under Sounds and Audio Devices, is Mute unchecked?
-
Thanks for the reply again!
I have run, AVG and Spybot and cleared my computer.
Yes its check been through all the volume levels and they're all un-muted.
And i clicked a windows medai file and when it opened an error came up saying about audio software?
Thanks!

What did the error say?
Do you see any errors in Device Manager?
If you go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds, then under the Program events, click on an event that has a sound assigned (it will have the little speaker icon) and then click on the Play Sound button (right pointing triangle). Do you hear anything? Any errors?
You still have told us nothing of the computer - make and model please.

The error is:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.
The only thing i can in the device manager is - a question mark logo, with the yellow circle exclamation mark next to it, linking to 'Multimedia Audio Controller'.
I hear nothing in the 'play sound button'.
I cannot tell you on the make and model as it doesn't say! When my father came back from the PC shop they must of built him a second hand one! No name of make!
Thanks.

You need to go into the System BIOS Menu and make sure the sound is enabled. That alone might fix it. If not, you need to install the drivers for that motherboard. They should have given you a utilities disk with the computer, along with an original Microsoft Windows disk and license too.
If no utilities disk, you need to go out to the motherboard maker's website and download. Either talk to guys at that shop or see if System Information for Windows (SIW) tells you anything.

Where is the system BIOS Menu?
I'll check the motherboard make and get back to you!
Thanks!

During boot, you are prompted to press Del, F2, F12, or some other key to "Enter the Setup Menu" or something to that effect.
