    PC restarts after login

    I have AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.09GHz with 1GB RAM .
    Motherboard is: MSI K2AGM2
    Windows XP SP2.

Some times my PC gets restarted after login. It happened 1-7 times randomly.

The login screen fluctuates once/twice when this restart happened.

I saw similar threads here, but finding it difficult to match with my problem and apply solution.

I picked up some events when restart occurred.
Event Manager in system tab has some errors listed as follows

    1. Source: System Error, Category: (102), Event : 1003
    2. Source: ati2mtag, Categoty: DAL, Event :43033
    and so on.

Can somebody help me out of this problem.

I did a search on your error code & I found a microsoft support page that listed the problem as being from a virus. I found that Here. Because of this I strongly recommend that you start a thread over in the malware section & tell them about this & give them that link. That is where they take care of those issues. I'm not allowed to provide assistance with malware problems nor am I authorized to diagnose that as being your problem, I'm just stating what I saw on a credible website (this is for liability & so that I don't get in trouble with the administrators here). That might not even be you problem. What are you (typically) doing when the computer crashes?

Is there anything in particular that you are doing when it crashes. The only thing that microsoft's website says about that error code is that it is associated with dual core processors on xp & the listed work around is to use a single core processor. I also saw pages related to underpowered or dying power supply units. Please look up the wattage for yours & check that against what Power Supply Calculator estimates what you should have. This web page has a built in tool that estimates the power requirements for your computer based on what hardware that you tell it that you have so answer the questions as closely as possible. It can't however tell you if your PSU is going bad or if there is another problem but its somewhere to start. I need to know what you are doing when it crashes. You don't happen to have a single core processor to (temporarily) replace your current one do you?

We have a PC got the similar situation recently.
It is running 2003 server, the PC restarts as soon as we type in user login password and hit enter. See no desktop icons and restarts.

So reinstall the OS, now working.
Before the problem occur, users is doing the antivirues scan and performing deletion of the found virus, forgot what name that is.

Before you reinstall OS, try to back up your drive data first to other drive.

    Hope this helps!

Re-installing OS is alright, but I don't want to re-install windows again and again for several problems those may keep on happening. More over it is difficult to re-install all the other software packages that I use. And it is time consuming also.

There must be some easier way out of this. Something might have been corrupted and may not-be installed properly.

Let us find out if easily I can do something.

Any way thanks for the reply.

    Dear townsbg,

Thanks for the replies you given...

Let me give some more information...

    1) State your OS(s), any software involed in your problem, & any major updates (i.e. service pack, version, edition, service release, roll up, beta release, distribution [Linux], etc.) to your OS/software as applicable to your problem.

---> Windows XP with SP2 (only one OS), problem not seen with any other software packages.

    2) For hardware issues also provide your system information: RAM, processor, etc. in addition to your OS.

    ---> AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.09GHz with 1GB RAM and Motherboard : MSI K2AGM2

    3) If you have more than one OS on your computer, how does your problem relate to your other OS(s)? This is especially important for hardware issues.

    ---> No other OS

    4) Provide as much detail as possible, being specific as even the most minute detail could help others help you solve the problem. Please tell us what you have tried.

---> I have not tried much more, but with some links in some forums and threads, I got referred to Microsoft website. They provide some information, but it is complex and in-turn refers to so many documents which are difficult to understand and digest and remember.

    5) Respond with the result(s) of the suggestion(s) from the other users to provide feedback, even if this only means saying "this worked!!!"

---> I don't want to go for re-installation of windows.

Additionally I would like to give an attachment which I could generate from driveragent.com Please refer to that. I went with their guided steps and finally landed where I have to pay money.

I want to get a cost effective solution.

    Thank you.

Uninstall Folder Lock and see if the crashes stop. There's lots of crashing with your version. WindrvNT.sys belongs to Folder Lock.

Just to clarify, I'm guessing that your file is from a program that scanned your drivers. Is this correct? Driver updates are free however out of date drivers shouldn't cause your computer to crash. However some of the drivers are typically provided by windows. In that case updating windows to sp3 would update those drivers. In your case I believe that that only apples to the IDE controller however you might be able to get an update from the manufacturer but that shouldn't be necessary. Out of date usually do not result in the computer crashing. That is an indication of something else like corrupt drivers, a corrupt installation of windows, or hardware problems. Some programs might also cause windows to crash especially if there is low level interaction with the OS. Now peterdiva stated that the listed driver is related to this program called folder lock. Such a program does have low level access to the os & therefore could be the cause of your problem so it would be a good idea to try & uninstall it. I wouldn't try to reinstall it or an update to it for a few days to see if your computer continues to crash. Now corrupt drivers might be fixed upon reinstall however that doesn't apply to those provided by the OS. I know that it is very time consuming but sometimes windows becomes so corrupt that it must be reinstalled. If you have hardware going bad or already bad then the only thing you can do is to replace it but other possibilities need to be eliminated first. A good place to start is that program that peterdiva referred to. Now what are you doing typically when your computer crashes? Is there anything that you can think of? When I searched for your error messages I saw info related to either your computer's memory, or windows, malware, or an underpowered/bad PSU. Now because of your response on a previous post I need to know if you have already tried to reinstall window or did I mis read that post? For help on malware you must create a thread in the malware section because only approved users are allowed to help on that.
