Have problems with windows close down on XP tried system restore does not work
cleared task manager window no results.

Any ideas please.............................

Welcome Mick, but sadly, you gave us very little to go on. What kind of problems? Button does not work? It just reboots? It takes forever? It always hangs at the same spot? What spot? How do get past that spot?

Laptop? Desktop? SP2? SP3?

Note that shutdown and boot problems often are due to hardware or hardware driver issues. Any errors shown in Device Manager?

If you manually exit all the programs (that let you) in your System Tray, one at a time, before going through the Start Menu to shut down, what happens?
