I went through and used dos to try and run the dlls, it said it worked, but it didnt, then I went and changed my settings. Then i went in system propertys, advanced tab, clicked performance, went to the advanced tab on there and clicked change. I set the paging file to system managed sise, that didnt work. I also went and found the dfrg.inf file manually, right clicked and pressed install. Still didnt work. Could someone help me? Please
When you go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter and double click on that, what happens?
It shows the disk defrag, But when I start it, it tells me "Disk defragmenter could not start........
I also went into dos...
C:\Documents and Settings\Rayne_Venasazi>fsutil dirty query c:
Volum - c: is NOT Dirty
C:\Documents and Settings\Rayne_Venasazi>cd\windows\system32
C:\WINDOWS\system32>regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32>regsvr dfrgui.dll
Those worked, but defrag still wouldnt start
And that's it? What's after the "....."? Are you using an administrator account?Disk defragmenter could not start........
Generally, you rarely need to run defrag, unless you are low on disk space. And if that is the case, getting rid of the crud is important. It is also counterproductive to defrag a disk if it is full of 1000s of temporary Internet files, cookies, and other temporary files. I always recommend purging the system of clutter first using Windows [XP / Vista] Disk Cleanup, ATF Cleaner or CCleaner. If you use CCleaner, then during installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar and before first use, go to Options > Settings > Advanced and ensure Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours is unchecked.
Note: Ensure you know your site credentials (user name and password) for sites you frequent before cleaning; you may have to login again at next visit.
I would also recommend you ensure your system is clean of malware before going any further too, just to be sure. Download, install, update, and run Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware (MBAM).
Check Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs for any programs you installed but now find you no longer use, and delete them to free up space. Do not uninstall anything you are unsure of.
Then run your cleaner again and reboot into Safe Mode. This ensures only the minimum number of processes are opened and drivers loaded, allowing for a more efficient defrag. Then run the defrag program again and see what happens.
Please do not attempt to try another defrag program until this is resolved. If the basic defragger (which is all you need) built into Windows fails to run, that's a problem that should be resolved before you start moving around every single file (almost) on the hard disk.
WARNING - The 2 worst times for a power failure is during a BIOS flashing and during a defragging - not pretty. All computers should be on an UPS (battery backup) with AVR.
Ill try what you said and run it on safe mode. The reason for the defrag is to remove space on this comp. i have some space, but i need more for a game to run properly. lol. Trying to fix the lag on dnd online. My graphics card is min requirements, i barely have enough space to run the game as it is. So yeah... Just tryin to get it to work better for my boyfriend. i also set it to run disk check at start up from dos. Umm... Thank you and ill post back and let you know what happens. ^_^;;;
Okay, well i already ran disk cleanup, and went through and ran diskcheck on startup. i have zone alarm pro on my computer. i also went through and fixed Local disk manager - automatic
Local disk manager administrative service - manual or automatic , still doesnt work. But i can tell you one thing... I just recently got rid of a virus manually, then used avast and zone alarm to get rid of the rest, I have the wikepidia security website, saying what the virus was. Virus Remover 2008 - from Wiki-Security, the free encyclopedia of computer security I think it possibly got rid of a couple system components.... I got the virus originally from trying to download a program (Nero) Off limewire. Was'nt a good idea. But i got rid of limewire and now use a more secure sharing file (Frostwire) I also have a program that is supposed to help defrag run (Sandboxie Control) ... Im more or less confused as to what to do at this point.
