    Windows XP not starting up

    Hi People
Tidying up my laptop: and must have deleted something important (BIG OOPS!)
Turn pc on and it gets past the initial windows timing bar then pop up "services.exe window" says unable to locate component MSVCP60.dll.

Why do these things happen only when you Really need the flaming things?

Thanks for any and all help

MSVCP60.dll is a Visual C runtime library and can be downloaded from a number of places

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254412

    DLL-files.com - msvcp60.dll, free download

    http://www.file.net/process/msvcp60.dll.html

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154753

Try going into safe mode by pressing F8 during boot up. Download and install dll in safe mode. you could also download dll to flash drive on another computer and install it via flash drive in safe mode.

If you can't get into safe mode you might have to do a repair /reinstall of XP.

A new thought came to my mind later on today. If you can boot into safe mode by pressing F8 during bootup you might be able to do a System Restore to the time before you made the changes on your computer. Its worth a shot to do first before you try out anything else first.

    Got there in the end
Did a repair and it seemed to work, restarted pc and got the same prob.
Did another repair so I could manually install the problem dll, but thought I would try another restart..............whoopeee it worked second time around.

    Thank you

I am glad the simple fix worked out for you. Running Linux has made me rusty when it comes to Windows. Thanks for posting on how you resolved this. Many members will appreciate this. Welcome to Dal and look foward to your posts.
