Wierd buzzy sound
Hi everyone,
I just Norton Ghosted my XP computer back to when we first got it, before SP2. The main reason was to get my sound back after the infamous xp C-Media AC'97 update that killed it.
Anyways, ive got it back to where it was back then, and now im having issues with my sound. Everytime i turn on the speakers, there is a constant buzzing noise coming from the left speaker. When i play music etc, it comes out all distorted like its been amp'ed too much or something. I tried another set of speakers, and they seem better, but only the right one works. So i pluggued back in the old set, and now both speakers work (whereas before it was only the left) and the buzzing is still there.
The sound card has been outta commision for about 2, maybe 3 years now, do you think it might be the wire? cus i checked it and the end seemed a bit bent.

Do you have anything to test the buzzing speakers on? Another computer for example.
The thing that plugs into the card (the jack) is that bent? That could cause some problems.
Did these problems happen IMMEDIATELY after restoring XP? Try installing SP2 or 3. Its really important to have at least SP 2 installed for security & for automatic updates (for which microsoft requires SP 2).
If in doubt you can reinstall XP so that you have a fresh install & see if that works. For some problems I've have the best success reinstalling. Major hardware updates/changes since the last time you imaged your install with Norton Ghost could cause some problems when reverting to an older install.
Yes it could be that the card is going bad but it could also be your speakers.

Hi, we had a fiddle with the speakers, taking them apart and cleaning them, tired again, nothing. We tried them on my laptop (Vista Home) and there is still the same problem. |So we figured it was the speakers. As for the other pair, it was just the line in cable that was a bit iffy. Just wiggled it in the socket a bit and it works fine now.
Looks like I'm gonna have to get some new speakers soon
