System restore
Hi, downloaded avg FREE recently (number 8) only because I kept getting messages up saying my old one was about to expire, anyway, sytem starts running slow with this new one on so decide to do a system restore to a date prior to installing the new avg.
System re-boots itself and I get a window come up saying "system unable to restore to this date.... try another" so I try another and same message.
5 dates later same messag, so I am unable to restore to an earlier date
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Are you able to cancel out of the restore? If so I would do that, and boot normally. Then uninstall AVG. System Restore is not really designed to roll back if you don't like something - it is more for backing out when a change fails, or causes some corruption - and even then, it is not fool proof. You should always use a program's uninstall feature, or go through Control Panel to roll back, when possible.
If that works, you might try AVG 8 again, only choose custom set up at every opportunity and uncheck everything you don't need. If you are only looking for an AV, then you don't need anything else. That said, the wife uses AVG 8 Free with only the AV and the AS and she has not complained about performance. I use AVG 8 - the paid version and I complained big time when 8.0 came out. It was full of bloat I did not want or need, and scans took many hours. Sadly, simply disabling the features does not help, you have uninstall then reinstall, deselected the features you don't want so they are not installed at all.
Also, if all this happened in just the last 24 hours or so, AVG released an update that caused a lot of problems for folks. They have since released a new update and all is well. Installing again would insure you get a good copy.
