    Question problems with ram

i just bought a new stick of 512mb(333).i now have two 512mb (266, 333) sticks and they're only reading at 768 mb. i tried adding a 256 mb(333) stick along with one of the 512mb(333) sticks, which is how i had it set before purchasing the new ram, and it reads at 512mb. i pulled the battery out to reset the bios and still the same results. if there are any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

Going to have to do some research on your Motherboard, From details provided, it doesnt reveal the make and model of the board.

Also what Kind of RAM is this?

1 more quick test to make sure the Stick of RAM is not bad, if you install the new stick with nothing else, does it detect it as 512 or 256?

By any chance is this an IBM machine? I once had a similar problem and it was because the IBM Machine only liked certain types of DIMM's

The ram reads normally solo, so i don't really understand why they won't work together. the model number to my mobo is vc37gv, and my pc is an eMachine. i've tried everything i can think of and i can't figure this thing out.

It's possible one of your RAM sockets is trashed. Look at the sockets carefully to see if you can see burn marks.

Try placing a good known RAM chip from a good known socket across to the other socket to check the socket is ok.

Also check the RAM sockets for dust dirt etc. And check the RAM chips likewise and also for bent pins.

I blew 2 of my 3 RAM sockets on my PC, but that's another and dafter story.

A BIOS upgrade shouldn't solve this problem.

(Sorry it took so long, been busy) The ram doesn't look to be burnt or thrashed. Besides I've looked for dirt, debris and burns . It's clean as a whistle so to speak. I think I may have just given up because every ram stick I put in this machine seems to read incorrectly with two sticks inserted. I think my only solution would be to use one stick at a time. I plan on purchasing a 1 GB stick as soon as I can. Thanks for any effort.
