My computer is acting really nuts!

For the past several evenings, my PC gets really weird. My mouse locks up and the computer freezes to the point that I cannot even shut down the system. I have to power off or pull the plug. The problem begins when I try to enter numbers for one reason or another in various, frequently used websites. When I try to turn the PC back on, the Dell blue screen comes up and stays there and Windows XP does not boot up. Today, when I finally was able to boot up, an error message appeared which said that Dr.Watson post mortem debugger found an error and Internet Explorer had to shut down. This is the first time that the system locked up in the daytime. What the heck is (or who the heck is) Dr. Watson and why is my system going nuts? Any help will be greatly appreciated......Me, not you!!!!

Dr Watson is Windows internal debugger.

How to read a Dr. Watson log

If you find the log(s) post them.

Total freeze ups are most likely hardware issues.

Is the computer old? Have you ever cleaned it inside? Do you monitor the temperatures?

    Other things to try:

    CHKDSK
    --------------------------------------------------
    Try running Check Disk:

Go to start Run... and type: cmd

    Then type: chkdsk /f

You will be told the volume is in use do you want to run chkdsk on next boot? Type: Y and reboot.
