I keep getting an auto update msg for service pack 2. When I try to do this it gets so far then stops and says I have an internal error. How do I sort this? I assume I need this update? I have no idea about how this all works, please help.

If it is referring to XP SP2 then go to Windows Update and install all "Express" updates which will actually install SP3.

start > All Programs > Windows Update
