I was using Realplayer for some time and doing very well with it when I did something one day (i do not know what) and now everytime i try to load Realplayer every icon on my desktop gets BIG and i have to go to control pannel and re-set display options back to normal. This only happens with this application I've tried removing and re-installing realplayer to no avail. I'm using Windows Media for now . What is causing the display to go haywire?

Try the free Real Player Alternative, link below.
Real Alternative v1.8.2 (freeware)

I note this one possibility:
Real Player installs by default into: C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer
Uninstall and then reinstalled into:
C:\Program Files\RealPlayer\RealPlayer
If that doesn't work I'd suggest a Registry Cleaner between uninstall and reinstall.
I use this freeware:
RegSeeker
Before using any cleaner you should back up your registry.
ERUNT is a great free tool for that:
[ERUNT] Registry Backup and Restore for Windows
ERUNT and NTREGOPT
Just to add an additional troubleshooter:
Uninstall and reinstall your Graphics driver.
