    Dvd multi region problems

    Hello all

I have a laptop with Windows XP operating system and I play DVD's using VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player and I also have Cyberlink Power DVD, My DVD drive is a Mat****a DVD-Ram UJ-845S.

My problem is that I can no longer play my region 1 DVD's as I unwittingly used up all my chances of switching regions and it is now permanantley set to region 2.

How can I play my region 1 DVD's again???

Hello Jephree and thanks for answering my question.

Thee's a lot to think about there in the links you've suggested - thanks.

Also, would I not just be able to buy an external DVD drive for my laptop and play my region 1 movies on there? would it work even though my laptop is set to region 2?

Yes two drives would appear to work:

And to the best of my knowledge there's no legal way to circumvent it with that single drive.

If this is something you do often, perhaps it's worth installing a second DVD drive, configuring it to the "other" region code. Watch region 1 DVDs in one drive, and region 2 DVDs in the other.
"Unable to update region settings" - how do I fix that on my DVD drive? - Ask Leo!

    That's great, thanks Jephree.

Do you know where I could pick up a cheap one for under £20??

I don't know British sites but in the US you can get almost any DVD drive for less than $30.

    That's about what? 15 pounds?
