DELL laptop will not start windows
Hi,
My laptop is a DELL Inspiron B130 running XP home edition.
When I turn the power on, it goes through the normal boot up screen, and the lights come on, but it stops after that and will not load windows.
I am able to enter F12 and run system tests, which I performed and got a report that everything was working properly.
I also entered F8 and tried to load "Last Known Good Configuration" and "Start Windows Normally" - neither work.
In Safe Mode, I only have one option: Micorosft Windows XP Home Edition - no system restore as I expected. Also, once I choose to enter safe mode with command prompt, five lines of text come up, but I am not able to type and there is no blinking cursor.
The text reads:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(o)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe
" "\hal.dll
" "\KDCOM.DLL
" "\BOOTVID.dll
" "\config\system
I don't know what any of that means, but it basically freezes there.
How can I get Windows to load properly? There is no floppy drive - only a CD/DVD drive.
Thank you for your time.

What it means is your BIOS can no longer find XP.
Do you have a Dell Recovery CD?
If so see if it offers the Recovery Console.
If so try the command: FIXBOOT

I had the same problem you did on one computer and I did exacltly what Jephree says and use fixboot if that dosn't work then you will have to reformat your PC to factory setting. You will lose eveything on there unless you can get it out via external HDD.
