suddenly no sound!
I can't find the problem! I had no trouble Sunday with my sound. Monday no sound. I have checked all the cables, and thru Device Manager, all sound-related devices say they are working properly. I'm stuck - and I REALLY need the sound more than ever this week for a project I'm working on. Can anybody help me?

could we have some more info please.. are these powered speakers, if so, have you tested them with an mp3 player or anything?

I know I will probably sound stupid, but . . . I think I have been running both the built-in monitor speakers and the cheap little separate speakers, but maybe it was just the separate speakers. They are all together and it was set up so long ago that I don't really know whether the monitor speakers have been playing or not. But I'm not getting sound from either. I plugged my portable CD into the attached speakers and did get sound, but the monitor didn't play the CD's sound.

You could try to reload the audio drivers:
Audio drivers
--------------------------------------------------
The best source for audio drivers is the computer manufacturers web site.
If the computer was custom built then go to the motherboard manufacturers web site.
Go to the driver download section and insert your model number. The drivers will be there.
If you are one of the very few people that actually installed a PCI "Sound Card" then you should have the drivers CD for that card or again go to that manufacturers web site.
If that doesn't help try different connections and or configurations e.g. plug knowingly good speakers into the computer motherboard; disconnect or turn off the monitor speakers; etc.

Thank you all for jumping in to help! Somebody stopped by and got it working for me - something to do with onboard vs added sound card, BIOS, swapping . . .
Anyway, I REALLY appreciate your sharing of ideas. I'll be posting on another issue soon (my brain can only handle one at a time!). Maybe I'll see ya on that post!

Thanks for the update. Glad all is well.
Let us know if we can help further in the future.
