I have a Dell Dimension C521 and my daughter downloaded two High security threat Trojans. I bought Norton for her computer but by that time it was too late. It has taken me two months to finally get the computer running. I located the trojans and deleted them but now I do not have IE anymore so it seems. Every time I try to install it again it gives me the same message, Internet explorer did not finish installing please restart the computer and follow the instructions in the troubleshooting file placed on your desktop. Has anyone ran against this problem before? Please help me!

Just a thought, you might try installing Firefox till you get a better reply to fix this.Also if you have the Windows XP CD you can insert it and do a repair install.

Forgot to mention you'll probably have to download install file to another computer and save it to cd or USB stick and install Firefox exe. that way.

Thanks for the reply. I have already done what you suggested and I am currently using Firefox. The problem I am encountering now is that Windows update is turned off and will not allow me to turn it on. The windows update site says I need IE 5 or better to use the site. I assume that the Automatic update problem I am having is related to not having IE but I don't know for sure.

Actually it is sounding like when you deleted the trojans they affected your dll files in Explorer and thats why Explorer won;t finish install. Thats why I asked if you had a windows disk.Your probably missing an install file that was deleted because the trojan was tied into it.
