    Changing favorites location..

hi, i've been using this pc for the last week and have noticed something unusual happening.

i keep my Favorites on my USB memory stick (so i can then use multiple PCs with ease)

i save the chosen site to Favorties on the C drive, editing the name to suite, then i go to the C drive Favorite folder. cut and paste it onto my memory stick, 9 times out of ten i get this message come up

i click to carry on and things seem to be working ok. i was just wondering what it was for and if i should take more notice of it.

    thanks for any help

    James

The NTFS file system that XP and Vista use supports Alternate Data Streams, which simply put, means that extra data about the files in question are stored in a separate file. For example, in folders where you store pictures, there is a hidden file called Thumbs.db which contains information about the thumbnails being display for each picture.

The message you receive relates to a hidden file that stores information about the Favicon icons for your favourites. By default, when you save a website in your favourites it has the IE page icon next to it in favourites. However, if the website has a custom "favicon" icon, then this appears instead. The message is simply telling you that you are removing the favourites from their icons and the icons won't be copied over to the pen drive. The image below demonstrates what I mean if you don't fully understand.
