    Unhappy I'm screwed

    Hi...Here it goes.

My neighbor has a Dell Dimension 2400. Their computer was REALLY slow so I reinstalled the OS and everything was fine except the screen resolution. When I tried to install their printer it would not install because of the screen resolution was to low. I first tried to change the resolution in the diplay properties box. When that didn't work I did some stupid stuff. Instead of going on line and downloading the drivers for the video card...( I least I think that would have been a better idea...I took the stupid route.) I started messing in the display properties box and so much more. This is what I remember doing....

Under Settings I clicked on Advanced

Under Adapter I clicked on properties and "disabled" devise usage

Then I clicked on "List all Modes" and started changing things in there...

Then I restarted the computer and now there is a black screen after the windows logo.

As if this isn't bad enough...I started messing around in the setup (F2) and I have no idea what I changed in there. I have tried starting in every mode...safe, safe with network...etc and nothing works. I do not have a cursor and when I try rebooting the XP CD "from CD-ROM" it starts the XP install process but when it gets to the press ENTER to install or R to repair or ESC to exit the keyboard doesn't work....

If you need more info let me know...

    Thanks,
    PiperLily

    Try resetting the CMOS.

This includes removing the battery and the jumper for a few minutes.

From the document the jumper appears to be two pin. If so just remove it and the battery for a few minutes.

If it is three pin move it to the two other pins then move it back.

    Here is a diagram:

So...J21 and JP2...Is that correct from the technical overview you sent?

Thank you...I can't try anything till tomorrow...they are in their late 70's and probably in bed.

    Thanks again,

When I opened up the computer there was not a jumper on the two prongs next to the battery socket. There was one on the password jumper. Those are the only two jumpers I saw. I went ahead and took out the battery and the password jumper for a few minutes and reinstalled and we are at the same point. Please let me know if you have any other ideas.
Check the lights as mentioned in my last post.

Also see if the keyboard works in the BIOS Setup. If so set the BIOS to Default Settings.

If it is an USB keyboard you may need to get a PS/2 adapter or keyboard.
