custom made computer problems with audio

still having audio probs
so i downloaded the soyo audio driver and that didnt make the yellow ? marks go away . and other suggestions ? heres the info again :
AMD athlon xp processor . package : socket A (462)
motherboard manufacterer is soyocomputer , model k7vme
chipset is VIA KM400
american megatrends , inc. BIOS
AGP version 2.0 graphic interface
Nanya Technology memory slot
so what kinda audio driver/controller do i need ?

before i downloaded the VIA AC97 but it got removed somehow. it still didnt give me any sound . could it be something inside the computer ? some kinda hardware

After trying any new driver please restart your computer. That being said:
Did you get that motherboard info from CPU_Z?
If not please try it.
That manufacturer (SOYO) is obsolete (as regards motherboards) but hopefully we can find something.

AC '97 drivers are the common audio driver.
The problem is every motherboard manufacturer makes their own version.

k , sorry . but i restarted the comp . and still nothing . is there a link where i can download the VIA ac97 driver/controller ? i dont even know the difference between the two .

In order to ID your Southbridge again CPU_Z will do this. Did you download that?
There is also a generic version here but again the motherboard tends to be specific:

All you need is the driver.

i went to viaarena and all it listed was codecs .

What is your Southbridge?
CPU_Z: Mainboard: Southbridge.

VIA VT8235 . all it listed were codecs for that . and then said it couldnt find hardware for that and wouldnt install .
