Hibernation Help
Hi
I have two issues with my computer:
1. It goes on what seems to be standby after only a few minutes of non usage. When I return the screen is just black but it is not shut down and then I have to reboot entirely. It is definitely not screensaver as that doesn't kick in until after 15 mins
2. Problem number two occurs when it tries to hibernate it is always unsuccesful and after about 5 mins I get a blue error message screen and it reboots.
When it restarts it says there is a driver device problem but I have no idea how to detect which driver is causing the problem.
I have recently installed the service pack 2 and the sims2 game. Can anyone help it's driving me mad!!!

Did you have any problems prior to installing SP2?
The 2 issues could quite possibly be 2 symptoms of the same problem relating to a driver. What are the exact error messages?
There are 2 things you can check out by right clicking "my computer" & choose "manage":
1. Look in "event viewer" under all 3 tabs for an "event" that coresponds to one of these "failures"
2. Look in "device manager" for any yellow "!"
If found try to upgrade the driver.
Did you have any problems installing SP2? Was your AV shut down? etc.

I don't think I did actually come to think of it......

I don't know what the exact error messages are because the blue screen flashes really quickly and then immediately shuts down.

Thanks I will try this

Sorry what does AV mean??
I had a look on the microsoft website last night and I switched off fast switching between accounts and removed a component of ADOBE workshop which could apparently cause these problems. Now when I try to hibernate it just has a pop up box after a while that says 'data could not be saved to disk, go back and save it manually' except I can't get it to go back.
Also is there any way of turning Hibernation off as this might be easier? I can't seem to do it on the Toshiba Power Management tool and it wont let me use the Microsoft one as just says 'Please use Toshiba Power Management'
Thanks for all your help

Turn off hybernation:
if xp wont let you:
It's Control Panel - Power Options - Hibernate page (Third one) , and
there is one checkbox to uncheck.
Also on the Power Schemes page, (first one) the bottom box is time
before going to Standby. Bottom of the list is Never
Look in your Toshiba manual. Or enter BIOS Setup & Disable Power Management.
Toshiba Power Saver / Power Management -- troubleshooting, feature descriptions
If you want to see a detailed error message @ failure you can try this:
You can turn off the feature that instructs XP to autostart on system
failure. Right click on My Computer and select Properties->Advanced
Tab->Startup & Recovery section->Settings button->uncheck "Automatically
restart" Apply. This will give you a blue screen with info on it and you
will have to manually restart the computer. The info might give you an idea
whether or not the problem is hardware or software related.
AV is anti-virus. It should have been turned off during installation of sp2.
You can uninstall sp2:

And re-install if you wish, following this guide:
