XP won't load

Re: XP won't load
You hit the first R and not the second?
That error just states it cannot find the file system.
Anyway you want to hit the first R for Recovery Console and not the second R for Repair.

How are you trying to reinstall?
A Clean Install?
Is this a retail CD or a Recovery CD? (manufactured computer)?
After choosing Setup you need to press F6 to load the SATA drivers. Did you get that far?
The hard drive manufacturer will have a diagnostic that you can run on the hard drive:
HDD Diag .................................................. ..........................
Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

this is a real cd i bought xp home edition. i put the cd in and right at the begiining it ask to press f6 to load the driver which i did i had put it on a floppy which u show me how to do and it worked back then . then it goes tru the process of installing all the files, then i get to the point to press enter for seup or r to get to the recovery console. i have try both but right after that i get the stop error.
i have the cd that came with the hdd now do i need to put the file on a floppy or just insert the cd into the dvd/cd rom. and let it go

Who is the manufacturer of the hard drive?
-
it is wester digital, i booted from the cd but it gets to a point that says
A:\>echo off
NWCDEX.EXE Version 2.81 CD-ROM file handler.
copyright 1992 etc
Drive X: Driver 'generic' unit 0
Drive Y: Driver 'generic' unit 1
command or filename not recognized
and then i get a prompt
X:\>( blinking line)

OK. I don't know what is on your CD.
You need a "Diagnostic" program and not an "Installation" program.
The easiest is to make a floppy boot.
Western Digital has changed its site so I cannot look too far without all the model details but here is the starting page:
WD Support > Downloads > Select Product
Anyway the first step here is to verify that this drive is OK.
If it is you probably need to wipe it before reinstalling XP.
Why a driver would have caused this I have no idea so perhaps the drive itself did fail.
Anyway try to find the proper Diagnostic.
-
damn i have 2 drives so i selected the other one and now the wd cd boots ok i am creating a boot floppy
-
ok i was able to create a diagnostic boot floppy i am running an extended test now will let u now the result it says i got 50 min remaining.
i got a window above where the test is running, that tells me the info on the hdd like the model,s/n, firmware, c h s, capacity, drive and log file.
besides the drive it says
Drive : 0 Port : 0xB000 is this normal to say 0 port
