    data retrieval

    Hello

I wasnt sure where to post this so forgive me if this is the wrong place.

A friend of mine has a computer with a Linux operating system and 3 hard drives, one for the os and the other two for data.

The operating system wont boot so I offered to take the hard drives and access the contents by plugging them into my pc which has windows xp and viewing them. Ive done this before and it worked no problem but with these drives I get a message "Primary slave hard disk failure" during startup.

When xp has loaded I cannot see the drives in my computer and I can see them in device manager - as hard drives with no volume.

Is there something different about a hard drive created under linux which is creating this problem?

I have looked at the Bios settings to autodetect the drives but they do not show up

    Any suggestions please?

    Thanks
    Volty

Windows file system (NTFS) cannot read Linux.

If you load ubuntu Live CD you should be able to access:
