    Trying to find drivers

    hi, i hope someone can help

    i have rebooted Windows and need the drivers for the sound card and the graphics card, unfortunately i don't know what make they are

    the PC is an Aries Perfecta 5000 PC System about 6 years old. There is a list of specifications on the inside of the case but it doesn't show sound card or graphics card.

    the nearest it seems to get is "ms-6533gl s478 p4 ddr atx motherboard & sound" but the label is too narrow...

    this is coming up in System Information

    Any help will be gratefully received

    thanks
    james

    Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Computer, Summary, Display, or under Display, PCI/AGP Video. This will tell you what display adapter/chip you have. Post that information. (Video Adapter and 3D Accelerator.)

    For the sound device, look under Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.

    Also look under MOTHERBOARD and post what is listed for your Motherboard (make/model) and the Chipset description.

    I found nothing for the MS-6533EG mainboard version, but here are the MS-6533XG SiS651 drivers;

    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...=1&prod_no=529

    The System Drivers are the Chipset. Load those first, then the display, then the sound.

    Post back with your results and any further questions.

    hi Dan, i downloaded SiS® 650/650GL/651/661FX/740/761GX/67x System Drivers and chose Windows 9X/Me/2000/XP.

    when the zip file opens it shows a lot of files and i am not sure what to do next. there is one called setup.exe but it says 'cannot install: SETUP or INSTALL program filename contains folder information. Use actions/checkout instead'

    was that the right one to go for? there are two downloads for 651 drivers, and two options for windows xp :s

    thanks

    Did you extract all files into an empty directory, or did you try to run SETUP.EXE from withing the zipped file?

    Hi dan, i have now extracted the files to an empty folder. there i chose setup and it culminated in asking me to restart, so i assume it worked. next i tried the VGA, however this came up with

    in a subfolder called AGPPack there is another setup which i chose. it said to restart. i can now run Flash but cannot change the resolution on the monitor

    the audio seems to have worked though - i now have sound

    thanks Dan

    Here's a display driver from the chip manufacturer;
    http://www.sis.com/download/download_step1.php

    Alternative download;
    http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/sis315.html

    As before, extract all the files from the zip package into an empty directory. (I have an INSTALL folder which I keep empty on C:.) You will get a new directory within. (315_351a) Click into that new directory and run SETUP.EXE.

    When the install has completed you can delete all the dirs and files from your originally "empty" directory, cleaning it up for a new use if required.

    Compress (zip) the Everest Report text file and attach that zipped text document to your next posting. (When posting, click on Advanced, and just below the posting box you'll see "Additional Options", and within that, "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and follow the prompts. Browse to the file and choose UPLOAD.)
