    Or SP2:

go to start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs

Click the box that says: "Show Updates"

Scroll down to Microsoft or Windows and look for either SP1 or SP2.

    Do you see either?

    Okay.

Using your CD plus the SP2 download you can create an XP SP2 CD.

You need to copy your XP CD to your hard drive as well as downloading SP2 to your hard drive.

The SP2 download is quite large: @ 30 minutes on a good DSL.

You can then merge them and burn a new CD which will be XP SP2 which should then match your other computer.

Here is a guide to this process. You have the XP CD that needs to be copied to your hard drive and here is SP2:

And here is the Slipstream guide:

    No problem.

If you need an ISO burner here is a good free one:

the download for sp2 is going to take 1hr30min..
just want to make sure im thinking right.
i download the sp2 on my computer(vista), copy the old xp cd to my hard drive(vista) then i use the Universal Windows Slipstreaming link you sent and merge both the discs to make one that i can then use on the old computer to reformat it?
sorry if its another silly question
i was just a bit worried about downloading the sp2 on the vista computer thinking it might automatically install after downloading and then i would have no working computers..lol

Yes you are doing what you need to.

Just click SAVE on the download and it just saves the file on the hard drive. It does not run.

nLite will merge your XP CD (also saved) with SP2 then you can burn this as an ISO to a new CD.

An ISO is an image and not data which creates the need for an ISO burner.

In Nero (if you have it) it is referred to as "Create Disk Image". Or just use the free burner I linked to where it will be incorporated into your right click shell: "Burn Disk Image".

After all is done you can remove all these files from your Vista computer.
