Is there any way to create a shortcut or hotkey to close down the current window - without having to do "ctrl+w"? I am really looking for a "one key" solution, perhaps the f1 key (which I don't use). I know how to do this for a program, but don't know what target is used to close down a window.

I don't think you will get hold of a program that allows you to use F1, that is always used to open help in every program. I've never used Ctrl + W to shut a window, I use Alt + F4. I think one of the best ways to do something like this is purchase a keyboard with customisable hot keys.
