OEM's bundled software disc no longer runs
I had the motherboard and cpu replaced in my pc because my original cpu burnt out (that is another story!) which meant that I had to reload all my software and hardware. My repairman tells me he used my Windows XP disc, supplied by Medion with the pc, to reload XP but now I am unable to run the bundled software which included MS Works Suite 2002 and Word. As I have several documents based on these programs I would like to get them back but when I insert the disk into my drive all that happens is that the activity light blinks rapidly and continues until the disc is removed. It will not autorun or run from My Computer although the disc is not faulty because it works on the repairmans pc. Other discs run OK on my drive so I am at a loss to understand what is wrong.
Can anyone help me to get the disc to work or tell me if it is possible for me to email myself a copy of this program from my friends pc - I would not consider this to be pirating considering I was licensed to have Works via Medions OEM license.

There is a good possibility that the software was "tied" to the original motherboard.
What exactly do you mean by: "the disc is not faulty because it works on the repairmans pc."
Is this a separate Works CD or is it bundled with the XP CD? If the former are you saying on another PC the Works CD will install?
You can get viewing tools for Works or Office programs for free such as this for Word:

You can also get Open Office for free:

The disc does not include the operating system which is on a separate recovery disc. The problem disc contains Works Suite 2002 (Word 2002, Works 6,Works Clipart etc). When I say it runs on the repairman's laptop I meant it runs and the opening screen appears showing the programs listed so that you can select which you want. However the repairman did not select any and try to go to the next stage to try to install them - he may have been faced with a request for the Product Key but as this is on the disc case I am assuming the installation would have carried on had he entered the key.
As I say, I can't for the life of me understand why the disco seems as dead as a dodo on my pc when other program set up disc eg mouse, printers etc work quite happily.
Thanks for the link - I will try it if I am unable to get my disc to run.

Can you open the XP CD from My Computer?
Point being to actually see if you can Open any Image CD.
If you can there must be some issue with the Works CD and or your drive or the compatibility between the two.
Are you using the original DVD/CD drive? Point being + or - compatibility issues.
Anyway let us know if you can Open the XP CD.

Yes - I have just tried the recovery disc containing the XP system and it runs OK from My Computer. Just in case the offending disc was damaged on the way back from my repair shop (very, very unlikely because I brought the pc and the disc's home well wrapped in bubble wrap and in a suitcase on the bus!) I will take it round to a friend and try it on his pc.
I had two drives originally - a Liteon DVD-ROM and a Mitsumi CR-48XCTE CD-ROM plus a floppy disc drive. The motherboard was a Micro-Star MS-6533.
My repairman had to replace the board because he could not obtain an Intel Pentium 4 cpu and the replacement cpu, type AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core, was not compatible with the Micro Star board.
I now have the new cpu working with a Gigabyte M62SME-S2L board but because this board will only accept one drive I was given the choice of which of the two to retain and I chose the Mitsumi which may have been a mistake. If you could further help me by advising me what each I the two drives can and cannot do I will be in a better position to make the right decision as to which to have connected (the Liteon is still in the tower and the repairman tells me it is easy to unplug the one and to plug in the other)
I will keep you posted.
Later:
Oh dear! My repairman and myself both have egg on our face - the disc is a DVD which explains why it will not play on the CD-ROM drive. It is clearly marked DVD but neither of us noticed it before but I did when I was about to insert it into my friends drive where it played without any problem. Needless to say, it would not play on his CD-ROM drive. I am having doubts about the expertise of the staff in my local computer shop who carried out the repair/upgrade - not only should they have realized why the disc would not play but now they have retracted their statement about being able to simply unplug the one drive and substitute it for the other. They are not sure if the dvd drive would work with the new motherboard so I have decided to leave things as they are.
Apologies for wasting your time.
